I am looking to smoke the tail lights on both of my RX7's. Can i just buy the tint from like Shucks to put a tint on the lights? Or where do i buy the smoke spray?

tamiya make a good smoke spray for model cars. works quite well on tail lights. you can buy it at hobby town usa, or on ebay.

theres also other spray paint companys that sell sprays... but most ive seen suck ass and get really dull and flat after they dry. the tamiya stays pretty glossy.

other wise yes theres films that stick to your tails and tint them.

dont tint your back up lights though. cops like to throw a fit about that and hand out tickets over it. Also make sure you dont go to dark. if your tail lights cant be seen over i think 250 feet away... its another ticket.

Ok. I will look for one of those stores.

I am not going to tint them to dark. Dont worry. ;)

My T2 isnt street legal so those are going to be REALLY dark. I am going to stealth on that car.

practice on glass bottles before you try it on your lights

2020 up in Bellingham smokes tails. They did mine and they came out great. But that's paint and bake/doing it right. Can cost a bit. $80 or so.

what ever your lights are made out of. find the same material and practice on it so you don't go at it not knowing what your doing.
did a friends lights when i was a kid and practiced on snapple bottles then did em, and they turned out baller.

Don't buy the tint. I hear it peels right off.

Some guys take it to a pint shop and they spray the lenses and it looks great. I will do the blackout taillenses eventually because it looks so badass.

yeah dude, I'd go with the spray tint. I did it on my Festy and it turned out good, did it on my friend's XB too. Just make sure you do LAYERS!!!!!! Even thin sheets, take your time. It'll take like 15-however many you want before it starts getting totally dark.

Otherwise you'll get weird drip lines.

Ok. I will look for the spray in stores and practice on some plastic bottles.

I really love the look of tinted lights. They are bad ass.

those are way too dark. Are you even able to see the light through those?

gotrice93

if i would have known he wanted to go that dark i would have suggest black spray paint

Brian
03-11-2009, 11:48 PM
 some matte black. Then they wont even reflect the light.

lol yeah i was going to color match my lights to my car, we have a color agent in our paint room that makes it more transparent with the more u add. i might still try it. if i do ill take pictures and do a write up

Brian

or you can do a SI taillight setup (white and red) and then paint your car red. Then they will match :)

i like my car being blue. it has its 3rd shade of blue haha 1st one being factory...i think i might mask off my display name in my 3rd brake light and then paint it to match so all that lights up is my name

RXSE7EN
03-12-2009, 10:48 AM
Hahahahahahaha!

They are not that dark in person. You can see through them just fine.

That paint is so crappy. I was spraying light, even coats and it still orange peeled and bubbled up. I was pissed. BUT... my car is not a beauty show and from a distance they look really good. I am happy with them.

gotrice93
03-12-2009, 06:50 PM
if it was bubbling up it was from the paint! its from your prep work. u need to use a grease and wax remover to make sure its absolutely clean other wise the grease wont allow the paint to stick

jon
03-12-2009, 11:55 PM
i used lacquer thinner when i did mine...then i sprayed 6 inches from the lights...then let it completely dry and did another coat...took a couple days...i wasnt pleased with the look on my car so i trashed em

gotrice93
03-12-2009, 11:57 PM
yeah i use alcohol to get grease and wax off, just have to make sure u dry them right away.
