ok i went to the junkyard to pull the motor out of a dodge caravan. right before we got started i noticed a stratus sitting right next to it. pulled the hood and there was a 2.4L that was in pretty good shape. turns out there is no damage except i need a new oil pan. so as i get the motor pulled i notice how clean it is. turns out everything on the motor was brand new and the block was painted black. after i got the motor out and all the accessories off including the manifold i then noticed there is no carbon buildup period and the valves are brand new! its been fully rebuilt right before the car was wrapped around a pole. im going to pull the pan and rod caps and see how it looks. then im gonna pull the head gasket and check the cylinders. hopefully in the next two weeks i should be sitting around 170hp and 190lbs! woo hoo. and my car only weighs 2250!

mods to swap the 2.4: 58psi fuel regulater 80$, passenger motor mount adapter 60$, shaved some metal off front motor mount, modified water hard lines, pt cruiser alternator brackets. swap number 2 and three coil pins on harness, drop injector pins down one rung, turn key! also need the underdrive pully i already have on the 2.0 along with the DOHC high rise hood, egr block off, tps and iac sensors on the 2.0. from a stock 2.4 to pulling the 2.0 prepping the 2.4 and dropping it in and turning the key, 16-20 hours, simple job

$114. got it hot tanked yeterday and magged it tolday. i think it was free cause the guy at the shop told me to do it myself if i really wanted to learn how to machine a block i had to do it myself. the guy likes me and is letting me hang out around the shop and run some of the stuff.

nice. What is the HP and TQ difference between the 2.0 and 2.4?

2.0 is 150hp @ 6500 and 130tq @ 4800
2.4 is 152hp @ 5200 and 165tq @ 4000

right now my 2.0 is hittin around 150hp @ 7200 and 135tq @ 5500 at the wheels. im putting my 2.0 cams in the 2.4 to raise the powerband more, plus all my hp upgrades for the 2.0 will directly transfer over to the 2.4. i also took the balance shaft assembly out of the 2.4. tests at neons.org show that it doesnt affect high end power, they just reduce noise and rob power. and im doing a lot of headwork so the numbers should be a little higher

im gonna love the torque, im hoping to get my 2.4 to pull power to about 7500. ill probably get a set of cams for it. but bringing my powerband higher up will really make a huge power increase

Brian
02-25-2009, 06:57 PM
i love the torque of my H22.

I'm not sure if this applies to the Neons, but make sure your axles are rated to handle the torque increase

Domesticated
02-25-2009, 07:04 PM
im pretty sure im good. i know i could probably use some new ones but i know stock axles have got neons into the 10s before. not that those guys didnt blow a bunch of them, but they can hold up. theyre about 1.25" inch thick i think.

"Old school" is now translated as "pain in the finger and takes forever".

If you have an air compressor, you can polish your intake as well. It takes all day but you get big hp gains, supposedly.

all i had was two jack stands a jack and my tool box in a driveway, luckily my motor stayed up with a jack under itand one motor mount. also luckily my tranny weighs 70 pounds really light and easy to work with. but my cast iron block aint so light though, it weighs probably three times as much as an f22

2fast4usteeley
03-09-2009, 03:13 PM
comparing mine and yours at the machine shop it did seem like mine weighed 3 times less
And when you were doing your rear main seal i couldnt help but laugh a little because your all into the weight reduction thing quote from jonboy as he is under the engine"Hey guys, there is alot of stuff under here i dont need" (josh) "he could use to lose those few kilograms (laughing)

well i finally got a valve spring compressor and finished the motor. i was timing it and turnin the motor over on the stand when i heard a hissing. my valves were the only thing i didnt touch in the whole build cause they were pretty much new. well in the months of sitting, they have built up a good layer of rust where they seat. kinda pissed. so now i have to tear it down again and im just gonna have a valve job done anyway. this is just getting iritating

nice man.

Gotta love parts that can interchange with other bigger engines

Domesticated
05-01-2009, 11:30 PM
yea, everything outside the block is interchangable, same head even, and piston bore. i would have liked to grab a set of 9.8cr pistons out of an sohc, but i guess my 8.8's will hold giggle juice better. and the only reason i have to do any wiring is cause the crank trigger is 180* off. but thats literally five min of wiring. its gonna ba as easy as pullin my motor, swaping all the parts over to the new one, and puttin it back in. no modification at all

Brian
05-01-2009, 11:35 PM
that is what I like about Honda so much. So much shit is interchangeable.

Domesticated
05-02-2009, 12:02 AM
lol, my options are limited. bolt in is either a sohc, dohc 2.0 of only one style. or a 2.4 dohc. the srt 2.4 wont bolt in, only advantage is it has oil jets to cool the rods and pistons, and the head fits the turbofold perfect. can and has been done but wiring is nearly impossible to get oem gauges to work. but luckily everything but the crank can come off an srt 2.4 and be put on a stratus 2.4, including the 8.0cr forged pistons and rods. 500hp oem ftw

Does that have any realtionship to the 2.4l 4g64?

See a dsm where? and no, not completely, the 4G64 is 86.5 x 100, my EDZ is 87.5 x 101. i havent looked too much into them but im pretty sure its the same relationship as the 2.0's, D4RE and the 420A

well its coming along. i am so happy i got a killer deal on this intake. itl kill a little torque but help my high end quite a bit and make a dramatic improvement when i boost. and i dont know about you other guys, but this motor hits max torque at 2500 and carries it to 6000 with these cams, thats a pretty hefty powerband!

well i got the motor in, took about 10 hours and a couple cases of beer ;-) the only problem i ran into was that piece of shit intake manifold. i wish i had gone with a stocker. nothing fit on my indy intake correctly. i have to get new bolts for my tb, had to reroute my cooland hoses "PITA". its a bitch just to bolt on. and the sensors are next to impossible to get on. had to modify the fuel rail. it started up with a flick of the key. something is wrong though, my ingnition timing is off and its running like crap. its a little faster than before i think, but i dies if i hit the throttle too quick, its having a hard time climbing and it slows down quick, dropping below idle before it levels out. im hoping i can fix it by adjusting the cam magnet. ill dyno it and then start making adjustments. ill get pics as soon as i can
