So I took all the sound proofing out of my RX7 but it left this nasty residue stuff. What should i use to take it out?

I have tried...
Sand paper.
Wire brush.
Flat head screw driver.

All have failed.

Help?

Have you tried, I think it's called, Goo-B-Gone... something like that. Or, maybe some rubbing alcohol??

either use a heat gun and a puddy knife, or freeze it and crack it off with a puddy knife. you can buy little bottles of co2 or something. i used it to freeze grime and bubblegum off wrestling mats in school. that sticky stuff will just come right off.

Yeah, Goof-Off or rubbing alcohol, would be my first picks.

Heat gun and paint thinner, and or MEKP should help take it off. If the store lets you buy MEKP use gloves and maybe even double up on the gloves, its really strong stuff.

And read the warnings. It will kill you if you get enough of it on you. One of the few things that goes right through your skin. If I recall, it kills kidneys, liver, spleen, nerves, etc.. But it's like benzene in that it cleans awesome (while it kills you).

Sounds like LOADS of fun. I think I got a way that works alright. I just used a scraper and scraped as mush out as possible then i used a sanding wheel on a grinder and it took it down to bare metal. Now i need primer and paint!

Any ideas on colors? Black? Silver? Neon Orange? haha.

MEK or methyl ethyl ketone. It's sold in hardware stores, by the gallon.

For that matter, try come non-chlorinated brake cleaner (same as carb cleaner). It's in a pressurized spray can. Again, that has benzene in it and cannot be made non-toxic. But of course, what am I saying?!?! Benzene is all natural so it must be good for you!

Spray it on, wait a bit, then wipe with a rag and see if it comes up. You've probably got that in the garage. It looks like you have a can of it on the shelf, next to the blue RX-7. Viewed through the sunroof.

Why not used a map gas torch? That will take it off for sure.

The best way I've found is with dry ice. Put dry ice pellets in there, let it freeze and it will start cracking immediately. A good smack with a rubber mallet will break it into a bunch of pieces. Then move the dry ice to another spot, and repeat. The pellets are easier to use, I used a solid block in my old Civic.

As for the paint, use a heat gun, and it will crinkle up and scrape right off.

There is no need for a resperator for harmful fumes.

i just thought about that, nothing against you paganizon, but a kid with a car full of methyl ethyl ketone will end up lookin like last xmas ham and smelling like a polyster shirt in the high temp cycle

oh and dry ice, definately the best idea, im gonna be gettin some tomorrow

I did that with a chunk. I didn't realize how big of a bang it made. The water bottle went flying well over the shop.

The sound deadening tar, yes. I left the paint in my Civic.

also, i heard Zepilume works on the sticky stuff. Hydrochloric acid seems like it should take care of it. I will test it next week and get some results up.
