Not sure if this should go in the detailing section... move it if it does

I read somewhere that peanut butter works well to restore the plastic trim on the exterior of your car. So I bought some cheap crap, and also some Mother's Back-To-Black to see which is better.

I did the test on my side skirt. I taped it off so I can have a side by side comparison.

Clearly the Mother's gives a better shine, but the peanut butter did make a difference.

Back to Black is a good product, but does not last very long.

Chemical Guys VRP or BlackWow will actually condition and restore the plastic and it will last much longer. If I can find a little 4oz bottle I'll send you some VRP.

Edit: I still can't believe you smeared peanut butter all over your side skirt.

Nice comparison. I read that about peanut butter, never tried it though. I've always used Mothers Back to Black.

huh never heard that one but it must just be the oils in the peanut butter that make it shiny, still i wouldnt put peanut butter on my car lol but it looks good

Well I can't imagine peanut butter doing any harm to unpainted plastic, so I wasn't worried lol. And yes it's all the oils and stuff that seeps into the plastic that is supposed to give it its shine. It came off pretty easy with a wet wash mitt too. How much is a little bottle of VRP cost? The Back to Black was $6.99 I think, and the PB was like $2.46.

That's a great deal, the Back to Black is only 8 oz. Hmm, maybe another comparison is in store for the other side :biggrin5:
