I just got an 88 honda prelude SI yesterday... it needs a solenoid, because the starter freezes up and you have to tap it to get the car to start...i dont think its fully the complete starter just the solenoid.. this is my first honda and i have absolutely no clue how to replace this...any help please would be great

If you get a repair manual, it'll be in there. Mostly it involves removing the big cable that comes from the battery, assuming it is a separate part from the starter. Lots of starters nowadays are all one unit but the starter is easy too. 2 or 4 bolts and one wire. Once you do it, you'll realize if you had to do it again, it would take about three minutes, including handwashing.

If you take the starter out, you can take it to an auto parts store and they will test it for you.

peep out my website in my signature, you can download the manual for your car that is 10 times better than any chilton or haynes manual and it will cost you nothin but a few minutes of your time

If you need a hand let me know. Most of the starters you can rebuild, but its easyer just to buy a new one.
