This is what happened to my brother last night. He was riding his 4 wheeler, decided to go thru a washed out creek bed, going down the bank into the creek, he hit a rock, flipped his quad, ended up on his back in the creek bed with his bike on top of him. He's ok, other than his ear, he bit the tip of his tongue, looks like his teeth might of went thru it, the tip is all black, looks dead and he has a fractured vertebrae in his lower back.

This is what they found when he took his helmet off.

Word.

I think it's better that he tried to tear the ear off, at the root, than slice off a part of the shell. I think that hurts worse. Also, when they say the collarbone is the most painful bone to break, that's bull crap. Vertebrae are way worse. Ribs suck too but for sheer, unending pain for weeks, give me a broken back. I can't speak for the pelvis, which is probably no picnic, but spinal injuries are much more of a pain in the neck (HA!).

At this point, drugs are his friend and they will be for a while. Take all he wants.

I have a ton of friends who have broken their collarbone multiple times and say it really doesn't hurt that bad, I have no idea why people think thats one of the most painful... I've broken 11 bones in my life and by far the most painful was my neck (obviously)

+fucking1

Collarbone-schmollarbone. Yeah they hurt but you can still move around. I broke C6 and T1 and for the trifecta, the surrounding ribs. Praying every second, not to cough, sneeze or God-forbid... YAWN! Two years later I could still barely run more than a couple of steps before intense pain would set in that would take my breath away.

Moral of that story is "when you hurt your back... see a doctor".

Soonish.

His bike is totaled. The frame is bent. It was an 07 Yamaha Raptor 700r, he just got dual exhaust for it. He had full coverage on it, so, he'll get a new one. He's also got an 97 Yamaha Raptor 660 and a couple others.

He's NEVER taken any pain meds stronger than ibuprofen. Since he left the hospital, he's taken 4, 5 mg Vicodin.

He fractured his L1 vertebrae. He said his back is the worst of it. He's got a pump in his head to relieve the swelling and another one in his ear for the same reason. He's got a nifty head wrap on right now to keep pressure on his ear. I just talked to him, he said he feels like he got his ass kicked.

He was bragging that his bike is "so fast it'll rip your lips off" or an ear. He's in good spirits thru the whole thing, making jokes. I know inside he probably wants to cry. Poor guy

Ah, that sucks. And I forgot to add crying to the list of things you sure as hell don't want to do. The pain wears you down though and if it doesn't go away, your emotions start to get thin. You get angry, sad, apathetic... etc.. Keep him comfortable and if he changes into Frankenstein's monster, forgive him. Forgive him now and get it over with.

Crying with a broken back is like trying to do sit ups, with a broken back. I don't recommend it.

I don't think he'll cry. He seems to be taking the pain quite well. He said he's been sleeping quite a bit. Which I don't blame him, I bet he didn't sleep for shit last night. I bet the main thing that's bugging him is, knowing he probably won't be able to ride anymore this year. If he was smart he wouldn't, anyhow
