Hey, so shipping car tomorrow.

Problem:

1. Car alarm wont turn off.

Not sure why, but it wont. It's a Viper Security system, aftermarket and what not. Never's happened before, but of course has to happen when I'm not around to deal with it.

Any ideas on how to disconnect the alarm system? I had my dad pull the horn relay so it shut up, but the alarm's still going off 'cause the lights're flashing.

I heard with VIper security systems sometimes there's a little black box under the drivers side with a reset button?

Any other ideas? Or anybody wanna elaborate?

Thanks!!

Oh yeah, '98 Honda Accord Coupe V6 AT model.

i take it you don't have the remote?

I've got the remote, but for some reason (and my family is kinda, not car smart) it's not working to disable the alarm.

It should be, that's always how I've dealt with it.

I might have them try it again.

Figs stuff like this has to happen when you can be there to deal with it yourself.

battery in the remote might be dead

That's what I thought.

H'm. I'll find out more about that if possible.

Just trace a wire from like the led, it leads to the main brain of the alarm. I had a similar issue with an Ungo alarm, the batteries in the remote were new, but it wouldn't work to shut the alarm off.

I hate to say this (because I really hate them) but call Snow's Auto in Spokane, they deal with Vipers and will tell you how to reset it from the inside of the car.

Update-

So, my parents failed to inform me that the remote battery was dead after I'd asked them, ha.

I finally got my mom to pop the remote apart and she's like, "There's no battery", "I'm positive there's a battery." "Where is it?" "There's like 3 things in the remote, ha, it's in there."

After a few minutes she finds it and is not on her way to get a new one for me. (Whew), hopefully with a new battery I should be able to remotely just hit the "unlock" button and disable the alarm.

We'll give that a shot. Crossin' my phalanges...

I'd be all over tearin' that thing out if I was home!! I'm don' this over the phone 2000 miles away! Haha.

you might be able to pull the main fuse for the alarm. That is what I did with my dads alarm

Yeah, not sure where it is. I don't remember one.

For now we got a new battery for it, but they've gotta wait until morning 'cause my dad's the only one who knows how to reconnect the car battery..... > _ <

Hopefully I'll have some luck! Thanks for your insight guys, I'll post what happens.

on my viper remote at least....little blue 2 way pager, there is a black button on the back for switching the outputs or whatever. if its not set to #1 and is on 2,3, or 4 (shows the number on the front screen) it won't turn the alarm off or on. i'm guessing it's just your lack of battery in the remote but...never know lol.

Alright, figured it out.

Think the alarm itself is fine, the issue was with the remote. I had my mom test it again, and the battery was dead. She forgot to tell me.

Replaced battery and was able to disarm the alarm easily that way. Man, troubleshooting 2000 miles away sucks.

Ok put a new battery in the remote. If that doesnt work find your valet switch. Its generally mounted in the drivers kick area. Its just a lil push button switch thats black in color. Put the keys in the key cylinder turn it to the on position, then with in 5 seconds press and release that once. The alarm should disarm after 2 seconds. If that doesn't work let me know, I know the Viper Alarms pretty well.

It doesn't turn off if you start the car with the coded key?

Naw it didn't. Turned out it was the remote. Stupid remote.

But yeah, got a new battery in there and it worked out well. Sorry I never reposted, hah.
