Check closely for rust. Virginia uses rock salt on the roads, in winter. As in mined-from-the-ground-evaporated-sea-water.... salt.
My truck had rust holes when it was four years old. HOLES YOU COULD PUT YOUR HAND THROUGH!

10-23-2009, 10:05 PM
so today i went in and fixed some of the little things that were bugging me. the passengers outside door handle was loose so i took the door pannel off and tightend a few screws and had to bend a bracket back so that it would tighten correctly.

then i found out why the stereo sounded so good

Yeah, it is what I have heard through numerous sources. Plus my friend has had first hand experience with it in those motors.
It isn't something to feel down about, store that info away for if/when you'll need it. The thing with the both motors (6g72 / 7 bolt 4g63) is that even though they can get crankwalk and a lot have, doesn't mean that they all do. There are some crazy reliable 3kgt VR4, and 7bolt DSM's running around.
The biggest thing about mistu cars in general is you have to keep up on maintaince. Tim's VR4 is a decent example of how reliable they really are. He just drove across the US and the only things going wrong were in his suspension. He just had his 16g sieze up on him and he it still drove around just fine. It was slow and sketchy but it still went none the less. 3kGT's are the same way. I have a friend who had an old stealth, Erik can back me up on this, but his car with no 3rd gear was running high 12's or low 13's or something. Right in that area. Other then the shot tranny everything else was good on that motor and he never had issues other then obviously the transmission.
anyways just some food for thought.

Specifically I drove the car from Virginia Beach, VA. There was a couple nice 3kgt VR4s out there, one spyder and another that had twin 18G turbos. Justin is right maintenance is absolute must with and any mitsubishi. It wasn't up until recent that you have been able to get aftermarket parts for the transmission, before if it broke you were hating life having to find/buy a whole new tranny.

ok so since she as an aftermarket sunroof im going to hack it up, ONLY because it already was cut for an aftermarket one. Sooooooo. here is the dealio the 92-93 3000gt's 1st generation had a really good looking moon roof. so im going to swap out the sucky aftermarket one for a stock late 1st gen moonroof really cool one
http://www.3si.org/forum/f119/1992-vr-4-moonroof-sunroof-swap-pics-447552/
heres a way of doing it!!! but i want to do it as clean and as stock as possible

there has been alot of people that have done this, and it should go fairly smooth with all the write ups ive seen

way to much work! only way i would suggest this is letting a shop do the work. if they mess up its there ass. you mess up u might as well send it to the junk yard

well i will def have it done professionally, but i will be there by there side to make sure it is done very meticulously. and make sure it is done just like it was stock

no shop will let you tell them how to do their job, if u try to they will most likely tell you to get ur car out. when my car was getting body work i only got to see it when i needed to get my parking pass and it was all torn apart then but next time i saw it was when i picked it up. that is why in school we hardly did student vehicles, no shop wants the owner to be checking up every hour to see how things are going. if u want to view the car go to a restoration shop and you could probably view it once or twice during the progress. I would also plan on spending some big money in just having a shop do it, it wont be a cheap fab.

idk its still in thought and research process, and i would want to do it actually. since next year ill be taking welding and then the year after that ill be taking auto body lol, idk i just think it would be way cool and am going to reasearch as much as possible. prob. wont be for a year or two

auto body welding is alot different then any other welding, my roommate was one of the best welders in his welding class and he couldn't weld thin gauge sheet metal for shit and would always warp it no matter what

why not order a new throw out bearing? you need that before anything. you know before it goes out, overheats, and locks onto your input shaft snaping either your clutch fork or input shaft and now your CARLESS AND TRANNYLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! worst case scenario of course lol

yea so a little update on my car! Some bad news has came up. so i looked over the transmission very closely and found that my supposedly just rebuilt transmission has been welded and its been cracked around the bearing of the output shaft on the front differential where it goes into the transfer case. So the guy i bought it from didnt mention anything about that which pisses me off but a couple of guys on 3si are helping me out and ill be putting in a brand new getrag transfer case, and a very low mileage transmission. But now hopefully i can get her back on the road soon, shes just at the shop waiting for a new heart. I'm just glad i looked it over thoroughly while im doing the clutch, plus the splines on the output shaft of the differential are all eaten off.

03-02-2010, 07:17 AM
well usually the transmissions for these cars go for like 900 dollars used but i found a whole twin turbo parts car for way cheap!!! the only thing that is wrong is, that it most likely has a spun bearing(which is common for these cars). ill post up pics later when i go pick it up today

"Reliable DSM".
He smoked me so bad, I literally said "Holy shit" to myself as he rocketed off, into the darkness and left me there, struggling to go fast.
