I know some people may not fully realize what toyota has here.
first of all...i always like to make point that my 20valve makes 100hp per liter without forced induction. I also like to point out that its one of very very few production motors that very reliably uses individual throttles. It came out, technically, in 1993. The only thing toyota carried on from the engine was variable cam timing, which they improved upon into "infinately" intelligent . Aside from that toyota never used ITB's again. And only other motor to make or better 100hp per liter was the BEAMS (Breakthrough Engine Advanced Management System) 3SGE, ie Altezza and MR2.
So to get on with my point....Toyota has FINALLY picked up where they left off over 10 years ago!! The LF-A is using individual throttles! Makes well over 100hp per liter N/A! I can guarantee they are using Dual VVT-i (all our new motors do anyhow)....possibly VVTL-i seeing as Yamaha was involved.
Now what got me aroused was that the engine is smaller dimension than the 2GR !! My first thought?
Put this in the FT-86 concept!!!!! Then mass produce so I can put it in my AE86!!!!
Oh yeah, the carbon fiber thing will hit mainstream lexus now within 10years so Toyota within 15 :D Carbon fiber Corolla anyone?
i do have one disappointment....come on toyota, running 2 ecu's?? its been years since the 1GZ guys..really

can i pet this car? sell my kidney for it? please? I WANT THIS CAR!!!!

a good kidney might buy the rims and tires
i have mixed opinions. that thing has to be a screamer, but the styling is where i have my issues. there's things i like and things i dont. i wouldnt turn it down if given to me, but it wouldnt be a car i went out and bought.

it has 115hp per liter. The S2000 has 120hp per liter.
im just not a fan of the looks, i applaud toyota for trying but they coulda done better

I was going to call BS but I guess if you round the numbers 120 is close enough to right ;) Japense F20C is about 125 per liter
Unfortunately Honda never tried individual throttles. I love the S2000, want one if it came at right time and price (cheap now). But I always wondered just what more they could have done keeping it at 2 liter with ITB's ...oh well.
Some of us are just excited, seems like under new management Toyota is looking at its past to move forward

I dunno. The only other cars I've seen with the deployable wing are the Veyrons (not in person :() and VW Corrado's.

heres a picture of a LFA at sema its pretty kool once you look at up close
This car is retarded, have you seen the price of it? Its 350k to 400k for the pile crap. There are so many cars that are faster, make more power, and handle better than the LF-A. I don't see where Lexus can enter the super car market and think they can compete with that price. The Ferrari F430 Scuderia is 281k and would be great competion for the lesser Lexus.

If you want to buzz around in a tin can then buy the Ferrari. If you want full leather, carpet, sound insulation, latest newest technology...then buy the Lexus. Get the idea?
Lexus has never been about building "affordable" cars. Trust me, price isn't an issue...there are a lot of Lexus' on the road that have much cheaper competition, or even much cheaper Toyota counterparts.
And if Lexus isn't planning on building many, then who cares? I mean, does anybody bitch about how much they spent on a Veyron?
Anyhow, my point is look at what the cars offer. Ferrari has a race car....Lexus has a luxury/technological car.
So when do we get to see your new Ferrari? I mean you already decided you couldn't afford the Lexus right??

yea, the enzo doesnt even have carpet in it. thats exactly what it is, racecar vs luxury supercar
509nestor

Yea the luxury of Lexus has not changed at all in this car, its just that this car is way faster than your regular Lexus. They drove in the Proving ground at SEMA and trust me it is fast and its a totally different experience. And I think that for someone that has the money to afford collecting super cars 400k wont mean nothing to them.

If I was going to spend that much on a car, it sure as hell wouldn't be the LFA. I'd rather go with a company that has been building supercars for awhile, like Lamborghini or Ferrari. The Murcielago, F430 and Corvette ZR1 are faster and cheaper. The ZR1 is one of the fastest production cars out and it costs 100k-115k. Quarter of the price of a 1st gen Lexus supercar that nobody even knows how reliable it is.
I think the only people that are going to buy this is rich Toyota fans. I don't think they are going to attract others.

I have to laugh that you would question the reliability of a Lexus...I mean seriously that is funny.
And again, you're comparing "race" cars to a luxury car. I completely agree that bang for buck I'd take a ZR1 too...but I can guarantee I would be more comfortable driving the Lexus. I can also guarantee I could never afford either in my lifetime :p
And they are building such a limited number that if they only attract rich Toyota fans then they're going to sell them all.
If anything this sounds like the Prius strategy all over again. Build something with new technology, lose money on every one that you build and sell....but get enough out there to generate interest and drive down the price of building your product, not to mention hold all relevant patents. Eventualy within a few years your technology is still the only out there, you can break even on the build and sell...and you've made more a name for yourself.
Like I said earlier, if this works out I can see Toyota getting more into the composite body structure with some mainstream, albeit high end, lineup vehicles. Then again, it also wouldn't be the first time Toyota hyped something up then flopped....its possible too.
But I have new found faith in the new Mr. Toyoda , he's pushing this and the FT-86 concept.....he wants some fun in the lineup....and he wants Toyota to be fun again. Time will tell what happens

These cars are toys, they're not practical in any way, they're not high powered for the weight/cost of them, they're just toys for people who have tons of money and want somethin' flashy, ha.
I could do WONDERS with just $50 grand to spend on a car! We all could! Haha. It'd be INSANE if we had $400k to spend on a car! Haha.

if I built a car with 50k, it would rape all those damn supercars. Drag or Track. With a 400k supercar, all your spending that extra money on is the 'name.' Just because it says Lamborghini means they can sell it for 10x the amount that it took to produce it.

ok brian we get it.... you dont like supercars. so are you saying you would live in a house in a dangerous neighborhood as opposed to one of the same size in a better neighborhood. sure the cheap one could be built up to be as good as the nice one, but wouldnt you rather have the nice one if the price werent an issue?

just the opposite, I love supercars.
I was talking about if someone just handed me 50k and said I had to spend it on a vehicle, I wouldn't go out and buy a new one, I would build one.
