Removing the Air Conditioning, the entire unit.
-Why do people do it?
>>From what I've heard is that the A/C unit is a parasite off your engine and removing it can free up a few ponies. Removal of the entire unit can free up some weight as well.
-What does the A/C do?
>>Don't make fun of me, haha. At first I thought it controlled all air functions (hot/cold), but my girlfriend has the A/C removed in her Eclipse and still has hot air. So is it just for cold air?
Just doin' some research! Thanks, ha.

a/c is for just the really cold air, it frees up about 2-4 hp. also gets rid of weight and makes your engine bay way easier to work in. just give your buddy a 10mm socket and tell him to take the little line off the radiator thingy cause your busy with something else. its hilarious trust me. make sure you film it

allot of the newer cars use the A/C system to remove the moisture in the cabin to reduce fogging up. When you turn on the defroster, it kicks on your A/C.

My A/C seems like it takes up 50 of my hp.... and some how it makes the clutch feel different. So I never use it and will probably remove it some time haha.

well it saves 2-4 hp on a 4 cyl when not running. i have no idea what the running difference is

Okay that's kind of what I thought. As far as needing "cold air" I think she'll be fine until summer, ha. We can deal with it then!

I'm thinking about ditching my a/c this spring. I want to get a Civic radiator, was unsure if you can keep the a/c with it, I read that you can. But, I need something to make people say ooh, aah when I pop my hood. So, it's time to clean it up
If I keep it, I wonder if I can hook it up to my VTEC solenoid to make it even colder when I hit VTEC? haha, I keed

im pretty sure removing it isnt the power you gain its the weight. Newer cars the ac is clutch driven so your ac is never turning until you hit the button, so there for i don't believe you gain any hp by removing it.

removing the pulley, regardless if its running or not is less rotation mass for the engine to turn. you get about the same effect as a lighter udp. just remove the belt and youll notice a difference. then the weight of course is a little extra

the 2-4% increase in power isn't worth removing your A/C.
The reason behind me removing all the AC, power steering and ABS out of my DA is because the AC and ABS didn't work and not enough room for the PS pump. Plus, I'm going to do a wire tuck and clean the engine bay so with all that out it will look allot cleaner
mine didnt work thats the only reason i took mine out....the power you actually get from it isnt that much in my opinion...i didnt really notice anything when i took mine out

Summer here without A/C sucks. I don't have it, its on my car just haven't gotten it recharged since the swap. But, yeah....good luck :lawl:

i would just hook your a/c to your intake. i wounder if the power gained off the cool air would offset the power loss from the a/c, probably not lol

Just convert your A/C to an On Board Air unit. a Constant air compressor at 250psi!
