HOMESTEAD, Florida -- The head of Volkswagen's motor sports program is at Homestead-Miami Speedway, fueling speculation that the automaker is interested in joining Toyota as the second foreign manufacturer in NASCAR.
Top NASCAR officials confirmed to The Associated Press that Hans-Joachim Stuck met with the sanctioning body on Saturday at the track. The officials requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the meeting.
Volkswagen officials expressed interest in entering a racing series, but indicated they are more inclined to pick a series that showcases technology, according to a person who attended the meeting but also requested anonymity. NASCAR features competition over technology.

I doubt it will happen. The only way I see that VW is going to come to NASCAR is if 1 of the big 3 pull out....mainly Dodge.
With the Nationwide Series going to the COT design in 2011, anything is possible though

Going by the article, looks like NASCAR is gonna go FI in 2011, and that's the same year VW is opening a manufacturing plant in the states, making them eligible in 2011.

Wow. I know NOTHING about NASCAR, ha. They don't use over head cams? They don't use fuel injection?
I've wanted to watch some, learn more about it, ha.

the NASCAR engines produce close to 800hp at 9,000 RPM. That is insane for a V8 and they do it for 500 miles

I just watched a few clips in HD on Youtube. I wouldn't mind watchin' some more!
Is there anywhere good online that you can stream it or download some of their full races? Or DVD's you can buy or something? Hah. I don't have TV.

well...for pushrods and carburetor its insane they do it for that long
I respect the endurance and skill of most the drivers, and the work the engine builders put out....but really its a hyped up redneck sport..sorry just my opinion
I can't agree with a sport body that penalizes you for engineering...ie: the 1960's Chrysler introduced the 426 hemi and was axed by Nascar for it...and Ford made a overhead cammed hemi that was immediately disqualified because it had an overwhelming advantage. So they basicaly kept technology the same for 60 years.
Yeah they do exceptional with what they have...but personally I think it led to the problems with domestic automakers. All their money was tied into NASCAR R&D and the mass produced engines trickled down from nascar racing.....so for 60 years they never strived to make modern changes while europe and japan continued progressing cylinder head improvements and fuel injection.
Just my 2 cents :D I get my rocks off from a 800hp JGTC 4cylinder Supra more than just another 800hp small block

you might try downloading some races from torrents. I'm sure you can buy NASCAR DVD's on the NASCAR website or Amazon.
If you want to watch a few good NASCAR movies watch "3" or "Dale." Another one is "Together: The Rick Hendrick Story"

they wanted to keep the competition level the same so they mandate the engine specs and chassis specs. That way, it's not about 'who has the better car' but who has the best team.

I suppose you don't like Le Mans either, since they banned the Wankel motor after it had a clear advantage for 24hrs.
Oh, so you're calling Randy Moss a redneck too? He owns a car.
It's far from the redneck sport it used to be when they actually used "stock" cars. Rednecks can't afford a $50,000 engine alone. Too much money tied up to be a redneck sport.
