so i need to figure out what rear drivetrain im gonna use. i looked into using the supra rear setup but not including the tranny it cam out to be around 380lbs for everything like the hubs, cradle, lsd, control arms bla bla. i dont wanna add that much weight. so i need some info from those who know, on some options to use. im lloking for a balance of lightwight and reliability. by the time this is done, its gonna be sliddin sideways a lot. just the little lookin ive done, the miata setup looks like it will be super easy to fab on and looks pretty light.

my guess would be to try the rear end of an infinity q45. they are wide but the good thing is that most of the US versions came with a Vlsd, Dual piston brakes on 12in rotors and 5 lug its a good reliable rear end because it was made for a more bigger car I helped my friend swap one on his s13 and for some reason it felt more lighter. Do some more research

how much did he pay for it? i need something lightweight though. im lookin to spend 300, maybe 400 for everything. the lsd can wait technically. i just need to the car to the point of running first. once i get the engine tuned and everything working, then ill worry about traction

Hey man, this would be a sick set up if done RIGHT! Do you have room for a drive line to the rear? have you ever thought of doing a AWD convert?

Subie rear end? Or maybe the back end from a Pilot or a newer Explorer?

There might be one in your driveway too... but then you'd have to find another beater.

lol, i did get to thinking though, my front end is already setup to run power to the wheels of course, maybe i could find a way to hybrid and eclipse tranny to my engine and go with some custom front axles if i wanted to go awd, but hey, i have no idea yet. id like to have it just rwd since i plan on having a drift car and 1/4 mile times arent that important

Learning to weld will have to be in your future. Go to Oxarc and see what they have in used wire feed machines. It'll be worth it. Hit Forest Steel and get some scraps to practice on. A $40 chop saw, from Harbor Freight won't go amiss either.

well i might have a shop. im gonna see if my senile grampa will trade labor for his shop. hes got everything a forge, big ass chop saw, plasma cutter. a welder that like the size of my car. we usually use his forklift to pull engines lol
