I am purchasing a new 2010 Honda Fit but am SO in love with the blue color the first generation models offered. How feasible is it to repaint the entire car? Are there any risks? About how much does it cost, on average? (I'm willing to pay the big bucks for a good paint job) How long does it take?

Most importantly, can anyone in Portland, Ore. recommend a place?

I'd be going from this color: http://hondamedina.com/media/Models/6/2010_Honda_Fit_Sport_Driver_Front_Blue.jpg
To this color: http://carimages.everycarlisted.com/7986-JHMGD37428S033593-640-1.jpg

I know it doesn't look like a big difference but you people familiar with the Fit models/colors know that it is! It's much more obvious in person.

It is very feasible. Are you wanting to do the jams? ie. door jams, under hood, engine bay.... those will all change the price. If you want the jams done it is going to cost more in paint and in labor. They will have to pull the engine and everything out to properly do it. As far as time, it depends on how busy the shop is. If you don't jam it figure a day or so to take all the glass out, door panels, door handels, mirrors, bumpers, lights. another day to prep it all, sand it down. another day to mask off, another day to seal and possibly paint it. so I would say anywhere from 4 days to 7-10 days. if they can do it right away and depends on how good their guys are. I also don't see any risk with repainting it, besides getting a shop that doesn't do a good job. If you don't jam it, i bet you are looking around 3000-3500.

Check this out: http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master.htm?http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html

I'll be doing it this summer once my body work is done and I get my front lip. Do some google research on this. Its referred to as the "$50 Paint job." A lot of people have been getting really good results from it. I like this the link I sent you because the guy gives you 4month, 8month, and I think 12 month updates to let you know how well it stood up.

Don't skimp on the paint job. Especially if it is a brand new car.

electron blue pearl (: like it. i agree, the fits look good in that color. I wouldn't trust any paint job you put on with a roller. plus you couldn't get the metallic look of the good stuff. it would be a solid blue color which may not turn out how ya way ya want. i did my racecar kinda that color but in cheap solid paint with no metallic. ill try and post a pic. but if pice isnt much of a factor buy urself some good paint.

I actually have already done this paint job on my mirrors and front bumper. I have gotten compliments on it from pro painters who can't believe that it was a rattle/roll on paint job. And actually there was a local car show here last summer and the best paint award went to a guy who used this method on his hot rod 3 years ago. Plus if it DOES fade or what not after a year or two its super easy and cheap to redo it. But most people are having 5+ years of daily driven results with it.

just my 2 cents. =)
