i got bit by a very special bug. talking to some of the supra guys i was pointed to a one off project. long story short it would be much easier to attach an isuzu 4.2L inline 6 to my r154 i have. yea a 4.2L! so i need your opinions. should i go with the 300hp stock hp isuzu engine that is extremely reliable and is rated in the top ten engines built in the last ten years, or give other neon guys some hope and keep heritage and stick with the 2.4T and MSII i already have? the average price is around 800 for engine ecu and harness with very low miles cause the good ones are 2006 or newer. if i went with the 6cyl id get another neon to put the 2.4T into. plus having that engine would gain a lot more attention and have way more potential. like 500hp boosted on a stock longblock. not sure so let me know what you guys think! oh and weight, theres a problem there, or not! the 4.2 is completely aluminum and only weighs 40lbs more than an srt engine. it resembles a 2jz in design so much some people are calling it a 3jz lol and it sounds amazing

oh yea, in the long run the price to completion would cost about the same

If it will cost roughly the same, why not go with the big guns?! That sounds like it will be a sweet setup

the reason it will cost about the same is cause i was gonna spent about 1000 on everything to get the fuel to the turbo and all the tuning stuff, if i run the 2.4 then itl run off the stock ecu and already be ready to run

sounds cool to me!! but idk you've been wanting the set-up for a long time. i would def. think about it, but i think swapping it to another neon and doing the isuzu would be flippin sweet
the biggest question is can you afford it? i mean if you already have most of the parts to do what you had planned on doing the logical thing would be to do it instead of scrapping it and starting something completely new...
plus would the inline six even fit in your engine bay? i mean isnt the supra engine bay quite a bit larger?

actually it isnt too much. and like i said before, i ran the numbers and running a stock 4.2 vs getting the 2.4t to run the same power would cost the same in the long run. i still dont really know though. the 4.2L is 28" long so im gonna take some measurements tomorrow

It seems like a more unique build then te 2.4t. How many people do it? I'd rather have to one thats different and in this case you get more power. but like brian said you already got all the parts for ur previous plan are you willing to scrap(for the time being) and start buyin new stuff?

I would have to say, stick with the 2.4, reason being, it'd show that you put more effort into squeezing ponies out of a motor that's almost half the size, yet could net the same hp gains. To me, that's more of a feat. Anyone can take a huge motor, put a little work in to it and squeeze out big numbers, how many people can take a smaller motor and squeeze out big numbers.

yea but then theres reliability issues with that. thats why a lot fD guys are switching to v8's. same power, more reliability. and as far as one off, i think theres only one guy ive ever heard of doing a 4.2 swap, into a car of course.

I say, do what you can afford. The inline 6 seems like a longer wait, but well worth it. I sure haven't ever seen an inline 6 neon. I'd pinch my pennies and get what you really want.

but hp is all mods. Most anyone could replace pistons or slap a turbo in, but squeezing a big engine into a small car would show alot more balls/skills in my opinion. I like seein weird builds you'd never think of and that aren't just a swappe engine with parts added. Things such as moving engines to the rear, AWD civics, weird engines no1's thought of. Stuff like that intersts me more. but thats my opinon
displacement over replacement... enuff said.
