This Project was the last project I did at the Tech College. It was an 87 Corolla GTS or AE86 as some know it as and I bought it to serve as a fun daily driver because after I finished my Subaru I didn’t want to drive it all the time. About 3 months after I bought it it blue a headgasket and upon tacking off the head we found that the honing inside the block was polished smooth so it looked like I would be rebuilding the block. I wanted to get more into the internals of the motor and this was my first N/A car that I really had the chance to modify. So while the engine was being built I took it upon myself to try some custom metal fabrication for my last school project. I had a friend that ran a JDM engine import shop and frequently brought in Subaru STi font clips so I asked him if I could have the fenders from a couple of his clips so he sent me 4 of the nicest fenders he had. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this car so I bought a $450 body kits off ebay because I figured I could fix it if fit like crap. I got some $350 wheels and started on my project. I took the 4 front fenders I got from my friend and cut the flares off and then welded them to the Corolla and made a poor-mans widebody. I use the metal brake to fabricate vents for both the fenders and the hood as well as welded the body line and passenger door handle. Everything done to the car was done in metal except for the body kit. I painted it a mixed formula of messed up forest green colors from the local autobody supply store and added a color shifting pearl. Total the entire exterior job cost under $1000 including the wheels/ tires. We got the engine back and it ran very strong for a while until it started burning oil which led to catastrophic failure of the motor. Turned out the guy who built my motor used standard rings on 30 overbore pistons and the oil was just passing on though. I still have this car but I am waiting till spring to put it back together with a new engine I got from another project.

Here is the mods list.

This is a project I started to turn and sell because it came with an extra engine so not only would it make me a running car to sell but also give me another motor to fix my other AE86. While in the middle of assembling the motor I god a call from the head of car club I am in (Team Exotic) and he was ask by HIN to try and have a drift car to help promote drifting in the US. He asked me if I could have something for him. I had 1 ˝ months to get a stock car up to par to shw at HID so I said I would try. The car I bought was much more of a drift car then car I had so I decided to use parts from both cars to make something in time for the show. I got some origin fenders from Raceon which didn’t fit very well but I made them work and started taking everything I could from both cars as well as some stuff I had laying around to make this drift car. The night before the show I stayed up for 36hr strait to get the engine in and working and painted for the show only to find out that the engine had no compression in one of the cylinders so I couldn’t get it to run well enough to make the trip to Seattle. So we missed the show and this is what came out of it.

Okay little update:

The white car after fighting me so long with this engine nonsense its going in a different direction. Was going to rebuild the High Comp 4age but its looks like its just not going to be cost effective so a buddy of mine is trading parts for some labor I did for him.

Need to modify the header, and exhaust and, mount in the intercooler, fab the intercooler piping and do a little wiring but I'll have everything posted up as I make progress. Lots of HP here I come!

Girodisc
02-04-2009, 09:53 AM
Its currently got a welded 84 Supra rear end but I need to find a new diff because I really don't want a welded diff, its unsafe. I was think to swap my stock rear end back in but I don't think it can handle the power. I haven't gotten that far yet but it looks like I'll be keeping the supra rear end in and trying to find a diff to swap.

Anyways PICS!!!!

The fuel system is finished. The Wring its started we are just setting up the wiring and then we will clean it up when we are finished. Got a good shot of the car but as you can see its missing some stuff. I'll have it all back on this weekend. BOV is going on the passenger side on that elbow I just need to to weld it on. Started the Radiator hoses and mounted the fuel filter. Wanted them to match the style of the intercooler pipes. Only thing that should be left to do by next week is the wiring so I should be able to fire this up the fallowing weekend.

We have a laser etcher at work so I can etch and cut acrylic so I am going to us it to make my dash cluster. I have a tone of LEDs so I am making a sort of black face dash. Above is how it will look in the day and below it hos it will look lit up. I should have the acrylic Monday so I should have the cluster done by next week. I used all Autometer Phantom Gauges w/ Blue LED Wedge Bulbs.

Let me know what you think:

Camera wasn't the best but I'll have more when its done. All we got it wiring left and I hope to have it done in a couple weeks tops.

Got the new starter in and its working but we have a couple wires messed up so we couldn't start it. We will have them fixed to night to start it. Fuel system has been checked and is working great. Should be on the road in a couple days yay!

I have some better pics, my ignitor chip was bad and I am still waiting for the new one to come in. In the mean time I POR15s the underside of of the car and cleaned up all my suspension. Got some new parts for it on the way.

I have determined that the hydrolic lifters need to be cleaned and opened up and it will go away. I guess its a common issue with older SR20 motors. So tonight I pull the cams, and clean them out so hopefully we should be good to go tonight.
