justin
01-26-2009, 10:49 PM
I have some on my camera, I've been working on the build thread but there's some stuff I want to get done before I post it.
A 5m is a 2.8 liter inline 6 cylinder out out a mkii supra

get a jdm 6mgte, theyre rare but sweet 5m head 7m block and turbo! it will bolt right in

OH ive only heard of the 7m
justin

Well I'm getting the 5m with a w50 tranny for free. I don't really want to put a lot of money into it right now because its just a DD. I'm waiting until i get the DSM up and running before I dump tons of money into the corolla. I might still do the 5m later on when the guy I met on another forum gets his running. If he doesn't then I'm just going to go 20 valve silvertop. They are like 900 bucks and I have read tons of build threads so I have a decent idea of what it will take.

never see supras at the junk yard and my mkii was sittin with a blown motor. went to the junkyard one day and saw a mkiii in the line. walked up to it and found a guy pulling a 7mgte out with tranny! he said he worked there and was gettin the whole setup, motor, wiring harness, ecu, tranny for 80 bucks. he said he was gonna resale the whole thing for 1000. he didnt even have a supra and wouldnt cut me a deal. he was just doing it cause he knew it was worth good money. dick, sold mine a week later.

That sucks!! I went to pull a part the other day and found a MKIII or two. There was like 3 or 4 cressi's there too!! Tattmatt and I were digging through all of them. LOL. Ya the 7m's are alright if you do the proper head gasket maintenance. I'm more concerned with all the fab work i would need to do.

The 5M-GE was stroked to 91 mm (3.58 in) to create the 3.0 L (2954 cc) 6M-GE. Only produced in 12-valve (2 valves per cylinder) DOHC/fuel injected versions, it was available as the 6M-GE and Japan-spec 6M-GEU from 1984 through 1987. The 6M engine used the same crank, machined to accept a different torsional damper, as the 1986-1989 7M-GE engines; this fact is witnessed by the designation "7M" stamped on the counterweight of the crank on the later 1989-1992 7M engines. The 6M crank did not have counterweights on cylinders 2 and 5, making it lighter and prone to rev slightly higher.
Output was 170-190 hp (127-142 kW) at 5600 rpm and 170-192 ft·lbf (230-260 Nm) at 4400 rpm. The 6M-GEU is usually the lower powered variant of 6M engines.

There is no such thing. Now I have a 6m crank in my 7mgte. Because it is a lighter crank. I dont see the point in putting a head with half valves even if they are slightly bigger. the extra 12 make up for the difference. Not to mention the fact that you would have to revert to a Coil and distributor as opposed to the 7mgte's coil packs and Cam position sensor. So yeah in a nut shell bad idea.
Now onto an Elite Toyota meet . there is a weekly meet at the Burgermaster on Bothell Everett highway . Last week saw the apperence of Ron R and His 800+ 2jz equiped MKIII. So Duane S will be bringing his 843hp 7m powered MKIII. Dr Mike in his 800+hp MKIV. Even Stu Hagen brings his R35 GTR out on nicer days . You can Usually find MKII's,MKIII's,and MKIV supras. Vip Lexi and the odd Cressida. It Is becoming quite the meet. If you want I will post the next date and time.

well, take the turbo setup off a 7m and put it on your 5, will bolt right on. or go from the 12v 5m top to the 18v 7m top on the 5m block, also bolts right on. the fab work isnt that bad, but def worth it when you turn the key on ur i6 compared to ur silvertop. plus the resonance out of an i6 is just.... its like waves on a moonlit beach

I was talking about the fab work to the car to re-enforce it. Like I said, I don't really want to dump a lot of money into the car. I am getting the motor for free, but that doesn't mean I am for sure putting it in the car. It right now is just an idea. I have seen the build thread on it and it's a LOT of work.
If I were to put the motor in the car I don't know if i would boost it.

Don't you mean 24v 7m? still what is the point of a frankenstien motor set up when a 7m is cheaper in the long run and will make gobs more power then a 5+7m hybrid. Here is all that is involved in a 6mgte. hybridhttp://www.celicasupra.com/dupler/silver.htm
Note as stated in your first post this is NOT a JDM only turbo motor. It is fact something that you have to build and it is time consuming and resource heavy. So It is not by any means a feasiable swap for the novice tuner into a 1980 Corolla

all apologies, i thought the mte was a 5m and that the turbo was continued on the 6m. didnt realize the mtu in the jdm xx was the 2.0 i6 and not the 2.8. "you are correct sir!" listen to the guy driving a yota. sorry about the miss information.
