it's a nice shell to work with
What's you plans as far as the engine goes? Keeping the D or upgrading to a B. My suggestion is to at least get a B18A out of a 2nd Gen DA Integra. 140hp in that light hatchback and that thing would scoot.
My experience has been that no matter how built a N/A SOHC D engine is, it is no match for a B series.
I beg to differ... People who know my car, know it competes for only having I/H/E. People I have beaten, LS DC2 with I/H/E, LS DA with I/H/E, B16 EM1 with an LS tranny, and I/E, lots of D's with mods or not, I did manage to beat Brandon's hatch until he got it dyno tuned, then it was alot closer race until the end of 4th when he took me by about a car/car and a half. I only got beat by a car and half by an LS CRX with I/H/E. Which was the sketchiest race I've done... I'm not saying the D series is better, because its not, but for the money I have into my car's engine, I couldn't be happier.

dont get me wrong I love the D's
I just don't understand people that dump thousands of dollars on a D when you can get a B swap for cheaper.
My buddy spent ALLOT of money on building a all motor D16Y8. Got it all done and dyno'd. 130 whp.
why do that when you can get a B18A/B swap for less than a grand and it will have 140hp and allot more torque than that D.

id rather have vtec then a ls could be just me, i think you could do more to a sohc vtec then a ls
Brian
01-28-2009, 02:51 PM
id rather have a DOHC that makes 140hp than a SOHC VTEC engine that makes 125hp.
The B vs. D argument could go on forever though. It's all about personal preference.

you also have to way the cost
Brian

exactly. That is why a DOHC B is the best money for HP. By the time you get a SOHC D16Z6 up to 140hp, you would of spent allot more than doing a B18A swap.

But I gurantee if you threw a GSR in your EK you would stomp a lot more fools. The power to weight ratios from a Integra to a civic EK is like 5 600 lbs. Also the driver has a lot to do with it too. If homie don't know how to drive a Vtec motor then the race has all reaedy been lost .

But a built DOHC motor boosted is a beast. How many Pro drag racers that are hittin 8's and 9's roll a SOHC motor?? NONE! Why are SOHC motors so cheap and pretty easy to find , cause most peeps are swappin em out for a Killer B. DOHC FTW!

Wow this could go on forever. We all know that if we take 2 cars and they weigh the same. Have the same mods and drivers are about the same and the only difference is DOHC and SOHC. Both motors are about the same size, compression, etc. The DOHC will win hands down every time. Period

You dont have to spend alot on my d16z6 when it was stock internals and head pushed 330hp and 300tq on 22pounds. Now im building.
Its a matter of preffence. I could have dropped a K20 into my civic cause I have the money for it, but some people like to be different
dont get me wrong I love the D's
I just don't understand people that dump thousands of dollars on a D when you can get a B swap for cheaper.
My buddy spent ALLOT of money on building a all motor D16Y8. Got it all done and dyno'd. 130 whp.
why do that when you can get a B18A/B swap for less than a grand and it will have 140hp and allot more torque than that D.

how much PSI you can push on stock eternals is more about the tune than the parts. You can build a car too the max and be pushing 10 PSI and still blow it. Buddy has a stock B18C and has been pushing 20 PSI for about 3 years now.

Ok here's the facts about Where the name Honda came from and the honda emblem . The Honda is the last name of Soichiro Honda founder.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg194/backwoodz_tuner/honda_s800_emblem_1.jpg
Honda S800 emblem. The S800 was a sports car from Honda. Introduced at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show, the S800 would replace the successful Honda S600 as the company's image car, available as either a coupe or roadster.
And as time progressed it evolved to what it is today.
Acura emblem
Horizontal Acura logo. Acura launched for 1986 without a logo and the "calipers" didn't appear until the NSX launched as a 1991 model.
Short History lesson
Soichiro Honda began by manufacturing piston rings in November 1937. He quickly became a sub-contractor to Toyota. Honda then expanded into other engine parts and even airscrews.
Honda began producing road cars in 1960, mostly intended for the Japanese market. Though participating in international motorsport (see Racing), Honda was having difficulty selling its automobiles in the United States. Built for Japanese buyers, Honda's small cars had failed to gain the interest of American buyers.
Honda was also the first Japanese automaker to introduce a separate luxury line of vehicles. Created in 1986 and known as Acura, the line is made up of modified versions of Honda vehicles usually with more power and sportiness than their Honda counterparts.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg194/backwoodz_tuner/VTEC_Warning.gif
In a move that was set to revolutionalize the way carmakers tuned their engines1989, Honda launched its VTEC variable valve timing system in its car engines, which gave improved efficiency and performance across a broader range of engine speeds. One of the first of its kind in passenger vehicles, it worked on the premise of tuning one engine to operate at two different 'settings' depending on speed. Low-speed driving would use a "shorter" cam lobe that resulted in more power and torque low down, but then a more aggressive "longer" cam during high-speeds for continued acceleration. The result was that the driver had the 'best of both worlds', and many automakers today have introduced their own versions of variable valve timing. The technology is now standard across the whole Honda range.
WHY HONDAS ARE So POPULAR
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and scooters. They also make ATVs, water craft, electrical generators, marine engines, and lawn and garden equipment. With more than 14 million internal combustion engines built each year, Honda is the largest engine-maker in the world. In 2004, the company began to produce diesel motors, which were both very quiet whilst not requiring particulate filters to pass pollution standards. Honda's high-end line of cars are branded Acura in North America. Many Japanese automakers have well-earned reputations for dependability and longevity, with production being well quality-controlled. Honda automobiles have developed something of a cult status in terms of reliability, even above other Japanese brands, with many owners never having any major problems for the vehicle's life
