Here is some background information for you:

Entering its sixth season, Formula DRIFT is recognized as the North American professional drifting championship series. As the first official series in North America, Formula DRIFT has taken competitive motorsports to the extreme attracting fans and car enthusiasts from all walks of life. This high-skilled, high-powered motor sport where drivers intentionally maneuver their cars into well executed, controlled sideways slides at high speeds through a marked course, has more than 60 professional drivers competing in all seven competitions this year.

Evergreen Speedway is the oldest track on the circuit and was originally built as a horse-racing track. Located in Monroe, WA, Evergreen Speedway, is only a short distance from Seattle. The Northwest fans are some of the most die-hard drift fans in the nation. The energy and excitement is often compared to that of Irwindale and the original “House of Drift.” The event’s headline moniker, “Breaking Point,” lives up to it’s name with many cars have been casualties to the track’s banking and tight transitions through the course. Last year’s event was historic as it was Formula DRIFT’s first rain event in history and the action did not fail to disappoint.

PDXmas Tuner Bash

by erik on Dec.09, 2008, under Coverage

Due to wet weather conditions for the majority of the year, the Northwest is not a great place to be a car enthusiast. Some events have the ability to change that, and the PDXmas Tuner Bash is one. Held indoors at the Toyota/Scion dealership in Beaverton, there were cars for all types.

The talk of the show seemed to be the Perrin’s brand new GT-R and there was a perpetual crowd drooling over a R34 that was located inside. There were a couple VIP entrants, as well as a couple drag Supras with monster horsepower. PDXine was on hand with a booth as usual. NOS energy drink was a major sponsor, handing out enough of their product to get half the crowd completely wired. The show was dominated by the large groups of Scions and Subarus in attendance.

The area club scene showed in force, with most of the entrants being local members. For a six hour show, it never seemed to drag, definitely assisted by the DJ and perpetual music videos projected on one of the walls. As a thanks for all the toys donated, a bbq was set up and free hamburgers were had by all.

In summary, this was definitely one of the more well organized shows in the region. It was great to attend a show that was oriented towards the tuner crowd, as opposed to a bunch of cars just parked in a parking lot. If you missed it, put it on your to-do list for next year, and make sure to bring a toy to donate.
